I wish I had some great story to tell about how and why I became a yoga instructor and Health and Nutrition Coach (but I don’t).  I have always been conscious of what I was eating.  Though I was never one to diet, I did live in a steady state of fear of becoming overweight.  I tried to stick close to what doctors, nutrition experts, media and other health fads were gaining attention but often failed to understand their claims.  Antioxidants…Carbohydrates…Saturated Fat…Polyphenols…. Folic Acid…Gluten…we have started to lose sight of our food and become only aware of labeling them as “good” or “bad”.

What I do know is that over time, I have learned that what to eat and what not to eat is CONFUSING.  Just about the time you think you have it squared away, the “experts” come out with new research that busts everything you thought you knew.  Everyone you talk to seems to have a different opinion, but the one thing most people have in common is that food choices often leave us in a state of guilt or deprivation.

I remember a time when I was working in “corporate world” and there were weekly lunches.  I knew I had been slowly putting on weight from a sedentary desk job so I committed to make small changes.  So on lunch day I would have two choices: Indulge and share lunch with my co-workers= GUILT or skip the lunch and hang on to my will-power for dear life =PUNISHED & DEPRIVED.  Food should not have this grip on our self-esteem.  I had also come to realize during this time, that my food choices affected the way I felt (often tired and lethargic).  This is where the fascination took hold of me…………and here we are!  I shifted my thoughts from what I shouldn’t be eating to what SHOULD I be eating!  I have let go of the diet mentality and weight driven focus towards my health and wellness.  I have learned that exercise doesn’t have to mean the gym or jogging six days a week.  Living a healthful life requires a balance of nutrition, movement, and stress management!

  • I do not eat a picture-perfect diet!  I eat cookies, occasionally skip a meal and yes, that IS a glass of wine you see in the picture above!
  • I enjoy cooking healthful food, especially when quick and inexpensive!
  • I don’t enjoy the gym or jogging (its okay if you do) We all have our love/hate list….we will find what you love and weed out what you hate
  • I like to have my cake and eat it too!
  • The best part of living a life of wellness…..self-care!  Self-Loathing   Self Love

500-RYT- I am a registered yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance.  I received my training through Om My Yoga Academy in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.  I believe that yoga is a holistic practice that takes the body back to a state of wholeness (mentally, physically and spiritually)  I enjoy guiding a practice that can be tailored to your ever changing needs.  I encourage a practice that honors the body.
